The Fashion Design Department of Indus Design School undertook a trip to Kolkata and Bolpur-Shantiniketan from March 13th to March 22nd, 2024, as part of the annual Related Study Programme. This immersive trip took students to Kolkata and Bolpur-Shantiniketan, exposing them to the rich tapestry of India’s traditional crafts and culture. While exploring Kolkata, students immersed themselves in the vibrant culture of the metropolitan Bengal, whereas in Bolpur-Shantiniketan, they witnessed how rural India sustains its traditional and cultural heritage through arts and crafts. Overall, the experience broadened students’ perspectives and enriched their appreciation for India’s cultural richness.
The culmination of the trip was a hands-on workshop from March 17th to 20th, where students actively engaged with skilled artisans. Through batik, leatherwork, and kantha, they created exquisite pieces such as batik-printed scarves, handkerchiefs, leather wallets, and coin purses. This immersive experience not only enhanced their practical skills but also fostered creativity and cultural exchange.
